This paper is concerned with the connection problem for the so-called hypergeometric system \((tI-B)\dot X=AX,\) \(\dot X=dX/dt\), with t complex, and the linear system of difference equations \((B-\lambda I)(z+1)G(z+1)=(zI-A)G(z),\) where X stands for an n-dimensional column vector, A denotes a square matrix of order n, B is a diagonal matrix of order n, while I is the unit matrix of order n. The parameter \(\lambda\), as well as the variable z are assumed to be complex. The connection coefficients are, roughly speaking, the coefficients occurring in the representation of solutions of the differential systems, in terms of the solutions of the difference system. The case of non logarithmic singularities has been already discussed in the literature. In this paper, the author is mainly concerned with the case when logarithmic singularities do occur in the solutions. The paper represents a valuable contribution to the analytic theory of differential equations of Fuchsian type.
