The authors present a refined, fully nonlinear model for the dynamics of composite, laminated, elastic plates with integrated piezoelectric actuators and sensors of arbitrary orientation. The model is suitable for investigating large displacements and rotations and takes into account the continuity of interlaminar shear stresses, extensionality and orthotropic properties of piezoelectric actuators, the dependence of piezoelectric strain constants on strain. This allows for different nonlinear couplings between all motions. Comparison is carried out with other simplified existing models. The authors emphasize the applicability of their model to the design of structures operating in post-buckling range.
