The paper deals with Zhang's model for self-organized criticality (SOC) with constant activation energy in a dynamical systems framework and outlines some key properties. The authors show that the whole dynamics is described as a piecewise affine hyperbolic system with SBR invariant measures. They discuss the question of ergodicity in this mathematical framework.
