Periodic solutions of an asymptotically linear wave equation (Q1310473): Difference between revisions

The paper uses an infinite-dimensional cohomology and a Morse theory developed by the second author to generalize a result of Amann and Zehnder on the existence and multiplicity of nontrivial solutions of the nonlinear wave equation \[ u_{tt}- u_{xx}= f(x,t,u), \] \[ u(0,t)= u(\pi,t)= 0\;(t\in \mathbb{R}),\;u(x,t+ 2\pi)= u(x,t)\quad (0< x< \pi,\;t\in \mathbb{R}). \] The problem is reduced to finding the critical points of a strongly indefinite functional and the concept of local linking due to the first author is used in the proof.
