The noted Russian mathematician A. Vershik, Professor at St. Petersburg State University, is giving a personal account of political oppression of Jews and other minorities in academia of the Soviet Union. He complains of a ``conspiracy of silence'' on the part of the former party functionaries and regrets the lack of testimony on the part of political victims. He hints at the disappearance of relevant documents from the archives. The author announces the publication of a more detailed account by A. Shen.
