    The paper is concerned with the solvability of the semilinear problem (1) \(-\Delta u = \lambda_ ku + g(u)\) in \(\Omega\), \(u = 0\) on \(\partial \Omega\), where \((\lambda_ j)\) is the sequence of the distinct eigenvalues of \(- \Delta\) on \(H^ 1_ 0 (\Omega)\) and \(g\) satisfies the strong resonance condition \[ \lim_{| s | \to \infty} g(s) = 0, \quad \lim_{| s | \to \infty} \int^ s_ 0 g(\sigma)d \sigma = 0. \] When \(g'(0) \neq 0\), the problem has been already treated in \textit{A. Capozzi}, \textit{D. Lupo} and \textit{S. Solimini} [Nonlinear Anal., Theory Methods Appl. 13, No. 2, 151-163 (1989; Zbl 0684.35038)]. The authors prove that, if \(k \geq 2\) and \(\inf \{(g(s) - g(t))/(s - t):s \neq t \} > - (\lambda_ k - \lambda_{k=1})\), then problem (1) admits at least one solution \(u\) with \(u \neq 0\). Moreover, under a stronger estimate on the primitive of \(g\), they also show that problem (1) has at least two nonzero solutions.
