Let \(X\) be a real Banach space, and \(Y\) a subspace of codimension one. A one-parameter family of compact vector fields is a mapping \(f: X\to Y\) of the form \(f(x)= x- C(x)\), \(C:X\to X\) being compact. \(f\) is complemented at a point \(x_0\) with respect to a closed subset \(T\) of the set of solutions \(\{x\in X\mid f(x)= 0\}\) if there exist a neighbourhood \(U\) of \(x_0\) and a continuous map \(g:\overline U\to \mathbb{R}\) such that \(g(x)> 0\) \((x\in T\cap(U- \{x_0\})\), and that \((f, g)^{-1}(0)= \{x_0\}\) and the Leray-Schauder degree \(\deg((f, g), U,x_0)\neq 0\). In this paper, under more conditions, it is shown the existence of a connected subset of \(\{x\in X\mid f(x)= 0\}- T\), which is unbounded, or touches \(T- \{x_0\}\), or is a cycle. Also, it is given the complete characterization of complementability of a smooth one-parameter family of compact vector fields at a given singular point of maximal range, in terms of its Lyapunov-Schmidt reduction.
