The author introduces Auslander-Reiter triangles and quivers into algebraic topology. It is shown that the existence of an Auslander-Reiter triangle characterizes Poincaré duality and an Auslander-Reiter quiver is a weak invariant. The theory is applied to spheres and it turns out that the Auslander-Reiter quiver of the \(d\)-dimensional sphere consists of \(d-1\) copies of \(\mathbb{Z}A_\infty\).
