The author investigates boundary element methods for the solution of elliptic boundary value problems on polygonal domains. In order to obtain an improved convergence behavior in the neighborhood of corner and collision points of the boundary he uses the dual singular function method. He also carries out the convergence analysis of this method and shows that the rates of convergence depend only on the degree of the trial spline functions, provided that enough singular terms of the asymptotic expansions are taken into account. The theoretical results are confirmed by a numerical example.
