The authors present a new numerical method suitable for simulating high-Reynolds number viscoelastic flows. The particular interest of the authors is on turbulent drag reduction for flows around hydrodynamic surfaces using polymers, and some of the developments in this paper are motivated by this applications. To this end, a modified splitting scheme in combination with the modal type representation of spectral elements has been found to be both robust and accurate.
