Es handelt sich um einen von \textit{Herschel} zur Klasse der runden Nebel gezählten Nebel, der bei Daueraufnahmen (5\(^{\text{h}}\)) beiderseits Ausläufer zeigt, die die Zugehörigkeit des Objektes zu den Spiralnebeln außer Zweifel stellt. Die Reproduktion der Platte, Taf. I, ist in Übereinstimmung mit einer Aufnahme von \textit{Francis G. Pease}, Astroph. Journal 51, Plate XVII.
