Indem der Verf. eine Formel verallgemeinert, welche Hr. F. G. Teixeira im Journ. de Math. (3) VIII und (4) V gegeben hat (F. d. M. XXI. 1889. 239, JFM 21.0239.01), gewinnt er die Entwickelung einer beliebigen Function \(F(u,v)\) zweier Variabeln \(u\) und \(v\) nach den Potenzen von \(x\) und \(y\) unter der Annahme \[ \begin{aligned} & u = a + x\varphi_1 (u,v) + x^2\varphi_2 (u,v) + \cdots + x^n\varphi_n (u,v),\\ & v = b + y\psi_1 (u,v) + y^2\psi_2 (u,v) + \cdots + y^n\psi_n (u,v).\end{aligned} \] Die erhaltene Entwickelung umfasst als besonderen Fall die von Laplace und Jacobi herrührende Erweiterung der Lagrange'schen Formel für den Fall zweier unabhängigen Variabeln. Zur Anwendung betrachtet der Verf. die nachstehende Aufgabe. Es seien die Beziehungen gegeben: \[ \begin{aligned} & f(z,t) = x_1f_1(z,t) + x_2f_2(z,t) + \cdots + x_nf_n(z,t),\\ & F(z,t) = y_1F_1(z,t) + u_2F_2(z,t) + \cdots + y_mF_m(z,t);\end{aligned} \] eine beliebige Function \(\theta (z,t)\) der unabhängigen Variabeln \(z\) und \(t\) nach den Potenzen und Producten der Variabeln \(x_1, x_2, \dots, y_1, y_2, \dots\) zu entwickeln. Die gefundene Entwickelung verallgemeinert das Universalproblem Wronski's.
