Die Cykloide ist erst durch Galilei, Roberval und Pascal eingehender untersucht worden; aber nach einer Angabe von Wallis soll diese Curve schon früher bekannt gewesen sein. Herr Günther hat dieser Frage eine nähere Untersuchung gewidmet und ist dabei zu dem Resultate gelangt, dass Bouvelles (1501) wirklich die Cykloide construirt hat; dagegen ist es nicht wahrscheinlich, dass Nicolaus von Cusa von dieser Curve Kenntnis gehabt hat.
