Um gewisse im Altertum vorkommende Näherungswerte von Quadratwurzeln zu erklären, haben Mollweide und Alexejeff Berechnungsmethoden angegeben, welche keine weiteren arithmetischen Vorkenntnisse voraussetzen, als solche, die bereits zur Zeit des Archimedes bekannt sein konnten. In der vorliegenden Note aber wird gezeigt, dass beide Verfahrungsweisen doch nur versteckte Kettenbruch-Algorithmen involviren.
