Die Abhandlung ist bis auf einen kurzen Appendix eine Reproduction der berühmten Arbeit von Adams über die Entdeckung des Neptun. Der Appendix enthält Hauptsächlich eine Widerlegung der ziemlich sonderbaren Einwände, welche bald nach der Entdeckung von Peirce gegen die Identität des theoretischen und des wirklichen Neptun erhoben wurden.
