Large-scale dynamic simulations can be often simplified by appropriately replacing large portions of the domain by a Dirichlet-to-Neumann (DtN) map. Here the authors consider the problem of representing a linear dynamical subsystem by such a map. The exact DtN map is computed as a model summation, and its properties are studied. The authors derive bounds on the symbol of DtN map in Laplace domain, and then approximate the exact map (in particular, in the high-modal density regime).
