This is a continuation of the article by \textit{R. Suárez, J. Alvarez-Ramírez} and \textit{J. Alvarez} [J. Math. Syst. Estim. Control 5, No. 4, 491--494 (1995; Zbl 0836.93053), first version published in Proc. Conf. Decis. Control, Brighton, England 1, 223--228 (1991)]. The authors investigate the problem of the existence of limit cycles for three-dimensional linear systems with stabilizing saturated linear controllers. A method, the so-called the first harmonic balance method, to approximately analyze and predict the existence of periodic orbits via Fourier series is derived. The method is used to guide and facilitate simulation procedures to estimate the region of attraction of the origin. Bifurcations on the number of first harmonic periodic orbits are analyzed when the parameters of the control change, but the closed-loop system stability is maintained. For open-loop antistable systems a Hopf bifurcation occurs, implying that two of the first harmonic periodic orbits correspond to periodic orbits. Results of numerical simulations are presented.
