The analogy between structural mechanics and optimal control manifests that they have the same mathematical basis, i.e. the state space approach. The common theoretical basis is the duality system theory. It is one of the purposes of this book, to easy the studying of applied mechanics. The problems solved in this book are all finite-dimensional, but the methodology can be extended to infinite-dimensional problems. This monograph describes mainly linear systems, but again the duality methodology can be extended to nonlinear systems. The book is divided into the following chapters: 1. Introduction to analytical dynamics; 2. Vibration theory; 3. Probability and stochastic process; 4. Random vibration of structures; 5. Elastic system with single continuous coordinate; 6. Linear optimal control, theory and computation. The book can be used not only in the research or teaching on applied mechanics and optimal control theory, but also as a reference book for practical engineering.
