The author demonstrates that the following two-component Hamiltonian system \[ u_ t=\{uv_{xx}/v-2u^ 2-v^ 2\}_ x,\quad v_ t=v_{xxx}-2u_ xv-4uv_ x \] (which contains the KdV as reduction) is integrable in the sense that it has infinitely many conserved quantities which are in involution. Furthermore, it is shown that the Lie algebra of symmetry group generators is isomorphic to \(A_ 1\otimes C(\lambda,\lambda^{-1})\) (where \(A_ 1\) are the two-by-two traceless matrices).
