The paper is concerned with a selfadjoint spectral problem for a Hamiltonian system. The author considers a method for calculating the number of eigenvalues lying on a prescribed interval of the spectral parameter. The matrix of the system is assumed to be monotone in the spectral parameter and the boundary conditions are also monotone in it. This method generalizes a method developed by the author.
