The major result proved in this note is the following: The Hardy operator defined by \[ (Pf)(x):= {1\over x} \int^x_0 f(t) dt,\quad x\in\mathbb{R}_+,\quad f\in L^1_{\text{loc}}(\mathbb{R}_+), \] is bounded on \(\text{BMO}(\mathbb{R}_+)\): \[ \|Pf\|_{\text{BMO}(\mathbb{R}_+)}\leq\|f\|_{\text{BMO}(\mathbb{R}_+)}. \] Moreover, the reverse inequality \[ \|Pf\|_{\text{BMO}(\mathbb{R}_+)}\geq {1\over 17}\|f\|_{\text{BMO}(\mathbb{R}_+)} \] is valid for any positive, decreasing function \(f\) in \(L^1_{\text{loc}}(\mathbb{R}_+)\). Reviewer's remark: The boundedness of the Hardy operator on \(\text{BMO}(\mathbb{R})\) was proved by the reviewer in [Acta Sci. Math. 65, No. 1-2, 293-310 (1999; Zbl 0954.42004)], where the term ``harmonic Copson operator'' is used in place of ``Hardy operator''.
