Let \(U\) and \(V\) be Banach spaces and let the operators \(A,B_m\in{\mathcal L}(U,V)\) for \(m=0,1,2,\dots,n-1\). Consider the Cauchy problem for the higher-order linear nonhomogeneous equation of Sobolev type \[ Av^{(n)}=B_{n-1} v^{(n-1)}+ \cdots+ B_1v'+B_0 v+g,\tag{1} \] \[ v(0)=v_0,\;v'(0)=v_1, \dots,v^{(n-1)}(0)= v_{n-1}.\tag{2} \] In the case when \(A^{-1}\) does exist and \(A^{-1}\in{\mathcal L}(U,V)\) it is well-known that the problem (1)--(2) is solvable. In the present paper, the authors consider the solvability of problem (1)--(2) in the case when \(A\) is noninvertible. No proofs and examples are given.
