The author shows that the quasi-Newton updates of \textit{C. X. Xu}, \textit{X. F. Ma} and \textit{M. Y. Kong} [J. Comput. Math. 14, No. 2, 143-158 (1996; Zbl 0853.65057)] which were derived as a class of updates satisfying the secant condition in factorized form are identical with a slightly generalized version of updates proposed by \textit{H. Yabe} and \textit{N. Yamaki} [SIAM. J. Optim. 5, No. 4, 770-791 (1995; Zbl 0840.65053)] which was designed as a factorized version of the structured Broyden family with a nonnegative parameter.
