The authors introduce a fixed point index theory for the sum of \(k\)-set contractions and expansive mappings with constant \(h>1\) when \(k<h-1\) as well as in the limit case \(k=h-1\). They prove some fixed point theorems, also of Krasnosel'skii type. Moreover, they give two applications to nonlinear integral equations. The interesting results, examples and applications will attract the attention of researchers in the area of fixed point theory.
