The object of this paper is to explore a new route from Peleg's theorem [see \textit{B. Peleg}, Econometrica 38, 93-96 (1970; Zbl 0195.315)] on the existence of continuous utility functions on partially ordered topological spaces to the classic theorems of Debreu [see \textit{G. Debreu}, Chapter 6 in ''Mathematical economics: twenty papers'' (1983; Zbl 0526.90003) and Decision processes 159-165 (1954; Zbl 0058.138)] on utility functions. It is shown that Peleg's theorem implies a result of \textit{I. Fleischer} [SIAM J. Appl. Math. 9, 48-50 (1961)].
