The paper deals with the properties of \(u_\varepsilon \), the unique solution in \(W_0^{1,p}\left( \Omega _\varepsilon \right) \) of the problem \[ -\text{div}\left( \varepsilon ^pa_\varepsilon \left( x,\nabla u_\varepsilon \right) \right) =f\text{ in }\Omega _\varepsilon \] \[ u_\varepsilon =0\text{ on }\partial \Omega _\varepsilon, \] where \(\Omega _\varepsilon =\Omega \setminus T_\varepsilon \) is obtained by removing from a bounded set \(\Omega \) a closed set \(T_\varepsilon \) of holes, \(f\) is a given function in \(L^{p^{\prime }}\left( \Omega \right) \) and \(a_\varepsilon \) satisfies, uniformly with respect to \(\varepsilon \), the usual continuity, monotonocity and homogeneity assumptions. The authors give a convergence result and an error estimate for \(u_\varepsilon \). To this aim one makes two main asumptions. The first one is that Poincaré constant in \(W_0^{1,p}\left( \Omega _\varepsilon \right) \) is of order \( \varepsilon \). The second one is that there exists a suitable family of test functions which are zero on the holes (but not necessarily on \(\partial \Omega \)). The results obtained in this paper apply, for instance, to holes with a double periodicity and to periodic holes approaching a snowflake.
