This is a joint review of this paper, called (I), and the author's paper in Acta Math. Sin., Engl. Ser. 20, No. 6, 1089--1094 (2004; Zbl 1093.46008), called (II). In these two papers, the author continues his work on the possibility of extending surjective isometries between the unit spheres of classical real Banach spaces to isometries of the whole space [see Acta Math. Sin. Engl. Ser. 19, 793--800 (2003; Zbl 1047.46012)]. An affirmative answer is given here in the case of \(\ell^1(\Gamma)\) and \(\ell^{\infty}(\Gamma)\). In both cases, a representation of the isometries of the unit sphere in a canonical form is obtained which immediately leads to the required extension. In (I), dealing with the answers in the case of \(\ell^{\infty}(\Gamma)\), the author does not refer to his earlier work (II) dealing with \(\ell^1(\Gamma)\) spaces, even though the representation is identical in both cases.
