The aim of the paper is to generalize previous results by \textit{L. Ein, R. Lazarsfeld} and \textit{K. E. Smith} [Invent. Math. 144, 241--252 (2001; Zbl 1076.13501)] and by the authors [Invent. Math. 147, No. 2, 349--369 (2002; Zbl 1061.13005)] about the behaviour of symbolic powers of ideals in regular affine rings. The main result is the following: Let \((R,m)\) be a regular local ring containing a field and let \(I\) be a proper ideal of \(R\) with key number \(c.\) Then: a) for every \(s\geq 1, I^{(cs+1)}\subseteq mI^{(s)}\); b) If moreover \(R\) is of characteristic \(p\) and \(R/I\) is F-pure, then \(I^{(rc-1)}\subseteq II^{(r-1)}.\) Some considerations about the conjecture of Eisenbud and Mazur on the existence of evolutions following from these results are made.
