    The authors deal with the existence of positive solutions \[ -\Delta_x u= \Biggl({A+ h(x)\over |x|^2}\Biggr) u+ k(x) u^{2^*-1},\quad x\in\mathbb{R}^N, \] \[ u> 0\quad\text{in }\mathbb{R}^N,\quad\text{and}\quad u\in d^{1,2}(\mathbb{R}^N), \] in the case in which either \(h\equiv 0\) and \(k\not\in 1\) or \(k\geq 1\) and \(h\not\equiv 0\) satisfying suitable assumptions. Here \(N\geq 3\), \(2^*= {2N\over N-2}\), and \(h\) and \(k\) are continuous, bounded functions. \(D^{1,2}(\mathbb{R}^N)\) denotes the closure of the space \(C^\infty_0(\mathbb{R}^N)\) with respect to the norm \[ \| u\|_{D^{1,2}(\mathbb{R}^N)}:= \Biggl(\int_{\mathbb{R}^N} |\nabla_x u|^2 dx\Biggr). \] To achieve the goal the authors use the concentration-compactness arguments, as well as the Ljusternik-Schnirelmann category.
