Here is the eighth volume issued at IMA under the direction of Avner Friedman. As in the preceding volumes, in this one he collected many interesting problems answering to (arising from) practical problems in industry. Contents: Preface; (1) Dealing with Geometric Variations in Manufacturing; (2) Interdisciplinary Computational Fluid Dynamics; (3) A Mathematical Model of a Crystallizer; (4) Randomized Algorithms in Industrial Problems; (5) Global Geodesic Coordinates on a GO Continuous Surface; (6) Micromechanics Effects in Creep Metal-Matrix Composites; (7) Seismic Inversion for Geophysical Prospecting; (8) Simulations for Etch/Deposition Profile Evolution; (9) Analysis of Cellular Mobile Radio; (10) A Pseudo Non-Time-Splitting Scheme in Air Quality Modeling; (11) Fluid Flow in a Porous Medium; (12) Robots, Mechanisms and Polynomial Continuation; (13) Failure Times in Metal Lines; (14) Surface Modeling: Impacts of Design an Manufacturing; (15) Chemical Filtration Modeling; (16) the Element-Free Galerkin Method in Large Deformations; (17) Aeroacoustic Research in the Automotive Industry; (18) Synchronization for Chaotic Dynamical Systems; (19) Solutions to Problems from Part 7; Index. This volume contains various problems and there is no domain which dominates by its extent. We propose to the lecturer the following classification. An important group of presentations is devoted to geometry of bodies and manufacturing package, (1), (5) and (8). As ususal there are fluid dynamics problems, (2), (11) and (15). The micro-mechanics problems are exposed in (3), (6) and (13). The text (7) presents an inverse problem of actual interest. The microelectronics is present in (8). An actual problem, that of mobile communication is present in (9). Of course, the nonlinear world is also of interest, (16) and (17). Finally chaos is discussed in (18). As all volumes of this series, this one, covering a broad area of problems, again constitutes a nice source of interesting studies for research mathematicians.
