By means of elementary convexity arguments which involve the Legendre transformation and of the Prékopa-Leindler inequality, it is proved the sharp Moser-Onofri inequality \[ {1\over 16\pi}\int| \nabla\varphi| ^2+{1\over 4\pi}\int\varphi- \log\left({1\over 4\pi}\int e^{\varphi}\right)\geq0,\quad\forall \varphi\in C^{\infty}(S^2). \]
