The existence and multiplicity of nontrivial solutions for a general class of hemivariational inequalities are studied by the variational method for locally Lipschitz functionals in the case where the Cerami condition holds. Another basic tool in the variational approach used in the paper is the principle of symmetric criticality. Applications to treat some particular hemivariational inequalities considered in different works are also given.
