    This article concerns oscillatory properties for quasilinear differential equations of type \[ -(| y'|^{p-2} y')'= f(x)| y|^{p-2}y,\quad x\in\mathbb{R}_+,\tag{1} \] with \(p>1\) and \(f\in C(\mathbb{R}_+,\mathbb{R})\). The main theorem states that (1) is oscillatory at \(\infty\) if \[ \lim_{x\to\infty} \log x\int^\infty_x [f(t)- (qt)^{-p}] t^{p-1}dt> 2q^{1-p}, \] where \(q= p/(p-1)\) is the conjugate exponent of \(p\). The proof is based on a lemma of \textit{H. J. Li} and \textit{Ch. Ch. Yeh} [Proc. R. Soc. Edinburgh, Sect. A 125, No. 6, 1193-1204 (1995; Zbl 0873.34020)] and comparison of (1) with an Euler-type equation (prototype of (1) with \(f(x)\) specialized to \((qx)^{-p}\)). For \(p= 2\), the theorem reduces to a classic theorem for linear DEs. Additional results are a conjugacy criterion for (1) in \(\mathbb{R}_+\) and oscillation/nonoscillation criteria for a generalization of (1). Related theorems have been obtained by \textit{Á. Elbert} [Stud. Sci. Math. Hung. 19, 447-464 (1984; Zbl 0629.34066)], \textit{M. Del Pino}, \textit{M. Elgneta} and \textit{R. Manasevich} [Houston J. Math. 17, No. 1, 63-70 (1991; Zbl 0733.34039)], \textit{H. J. Li} [Hiroshima Math. J. 25, No. 3, 571-583 (1995; Zbl 0872.34018)] and \textit{A. Lomtatidze} [Arch. Math. Brno 32, No. 3, 181-193 (1996; Zbl 0908.34023)].
