The authors study a free boundary problem for one-dimensional compressible barotropic fluids with large initial data and forces. Under some conditions on the pressure, viscosity coefficients, and using a relation between the outer force and outer pressure, uniform bounds with respect to time are found for the solution. Furthermore, its convergence to a stationary solution as time tends to infinity is studied. In the case of unique stationary solution with no vacuum (i.e. positive density), the \(L^2\) and \(H^1\) stabilization rates are obtained by constructing suitable Lyapunov functionals.
