Previous work of the authors shows that generalized Morita equivalences are induced by pairs of bimodules. The present paper is concerned with conditions under which the torsion theories are hereditary (we recall that a generalized Morita equivalence is an equivalence between members of torsion theories in module categories). The study uses a characterization of the bimodules. Global dimensions and Grothendieck groups are also investigated.
