Der Aufsatz ist ein Versuch, eine modernen Ansprüchen genügende Fundierung der wissenschaftlichen, besonders der naturwissenschaftlichen Erkenntnis vorzubereiten; es wird ferner zu empiristisch-positivistischen (\textit{Petzoldt, Reichenbach}) und realistischsymbolistischen (Eddington, Planck) Gedankengängen Stellung genommen.
