This paper deals with preprojective partitions as introduced by \textit{M. Auslander} and \textit{S. Smalø} [in J. Algebra 66, 61-122 (1980; Zbl 0477.16013)] and is a continuation of an article by the author [in Commun. Algebra 23, No. 1, 57-80 (1995; cf. the preceding review Zbl 0841.16011)]. The author introduces a new class of algebras for which the characterization of preprojective modules given by \textit{M. I. Platzeck} [in Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 238, 89-128 (1978; Zbl 0389.16010)] still works and for which the algorithms for computing preprojectives first obtained by \textit{G. Todorov} [in Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 85, 523-528 (1982; Zbl 0494.16013)] and then generalized by \textit{F. U. Coelho} [in Commun. Algebra 18, No. 5, 1401-1423 (1990; Zbl 0707.16005)] are still applicable. They are the so called \({\mathcal P}_1\)-hereditary algebras, characterized by the condition that, if \(C\) is preprojective of level 1, every indecomposable \(X\) such that \(\text{Hom}(X,C)\neq 0\) is preprojective of level 0 or of level 1. It is shown that the class of \({\mathcal P}_1\)-hereditary algebras contains the class of algebras \(\Lambda\) such that the functor \(\text{Hom}_\Lambda(\;,\Lambda)\) has finite length. The notion is extended to a definition of \({\mathcal P}_n\)-hereditary algebras where \(n\) is any natural number. Several examples are given.
