The authors present some results obtained on incompressible nonlinear bipolar fluid flows. The book contains six chapters and three appendices. Chapter 1 develops the theory of incompressible multipolar fluids with emphasis on the nonlinear bipolar model. Chapter 2 deals with plane Poisseuille flows of incompressible bipolar viscous fluids between parallel plates; existence, uniqueness, and continuous dependence on constitutive parameters are analyzed. Chapter 3 studies four problems for nonlinear incompressible bipolar fluids, namely the classical problem of a flow between two concentric rotating cylinders, the problem of stability of a bubble immersed in an incompressible bipolar fluid, the exterior flow of a viscous bipolar fluid around an obstacle in the plane, and the problem of flow over a non-smooth boundary. Chapter 4 provides general existence and uniqueness theorems for incompressible bipolar flows and for non-Newtonian flows with vanishing higher-order viscosity. The results are established for bounded and unbounded domains and for periodic boundary conditions. Chapter 5 proves the existence of maximal compact attractors for incompressible bipolar and non-Newtonian flows in bounded domains and for space-periodic problems. In Chapter 6, the authors examine the existence of an inertial manifold for bipolar incompressible viscous flows, including the squeezing of orbits. Additionally, the authors give here the existence of a maximal compact attractor for the flow of an incompressible bipolar viscous fluid in an unbounded parallel-walled channel. This book will be a valuable resource for applied mathematicians, fluid dynamicists and engineers with an interest in non-Newtonian fluid mechanics.
