The book deals with numerous methods of control analysis and applications of bilinear systems. This interesting book is the first wide study after \textit{R. R. Mohler's} well-known book edited in [Bilinear control processes. With applications to engineering, ecology, and medicine. Mathematics in Science and Engineering. Academic Press (1973; Zbl 0343.93001)]. Since the bilinear models are often used in many research fields, for instance, sociology, ecology, biology, nuclear fission, chemical engineering, transmission and power systems the publishing of this book seems to be very valuable. The material included can be divided into two parts: theoretical results and applications. The book is organized into 8 chapters. After the introduction Chapter 1 lists some basic theoretical results of bilinearization of control nonlinear problems including controllability, observability and invertibility of control bilinear systems. Chapter 2 discusses the basic problems of optimal control, stability and adaptive control. The problems of identification and optimal parameter estimation are considered in Chapter 3. The geometric structures and Lie group methods in the investigation of nonlinear control problems are presented in Chapter 4. In the second part of the book the three areas of applications: superconducting levitation, quantum mechanical processes and biomolecular systems are considered in Chapters 5, 6 and 7, respectively. Chapter 8 is devoted to the application of modeling the controlled processes running in biomolecular systems. As a textbook it can serve only for graduate courses because preliminary mathematical knowledge from control theory, stochastic differential equations, statistics, filtering, etc. is necessary for understanding the theoretical part of the book. Also, some standard basic approaches in the study of stability, stabilizability and optimal control of bilinear systems, namely Lyapunov approach, sliding mode control are not considered in the book.
