The authors start with the definition of the Hörmander spaces \(\mathbb{B}_{p,\mu}\) and \(\mathbb{H}^{s,\varphi}\) on \(\mathbb{R}^n\), on manifolds, and on domains with or without boundary, based on the interpolation of spaces. Here, \(\mu\) and \(\varphi\) are weight functions and \(1<p<\infty\). The norm in \(\mathbb{B}_{p,\mu}(\mathbb{R}^n)\) is defined as follows: \(\|u\|_{\mathbb{B}_{p,\mu}(\mathbb{R}^n)}:=\|\mu \widehat{u}\|_{\mathbb{L}_p(\mathbb{R}^n)}\), and in \(\mathbb{H}^{s,\varphi}(\mathbb{R}^n)\) as \(\|u\|_{\mathbb{H}^{s,\varphi}(\mathbb{R}^n)}:=\|\langle\cdot\rangle^s \varphi\widehat{u}\|_{\mathbb{L}_2(\mathbb{R}^n)}\), where \(\widehat{u}\) denotes the Fourier transform of \(u\) (in contrast, the norm in the Hörmander space \(\mathbb{H}_{p,\mu}(\mathbb{R}^n)\) is defined as follows: \(\|u\|_{\mathbb{H}_{p,\mu}(\mathbb{R}^n)}:=\|\mathcal{F}^{-1}[\mu \widehat{u}]\|_{\mathbb{L}_p( \mathbb{R}^n)}\), where \(\mathcal{F}^{-1}\) denotes the inverse Fourier transform). The authors conclude the first chapter by well-known assertions on the smoothness of pseudodifferential equations with uniformly elliptic symbols from the Hörmander class \(\mathbb{S}^m(\mathbb{R}^{2n})\). In Chapter 2, the authors define spaces on closed manifolds and consider elliptic operators in these spaces (smoothness of solutions, convergence of spectral expansions etc.). In Chapter 3, boundary value problems (BVPs) on domains \(\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^n\) for partial differential operators (PDEs) of order \(2q\geqslant2\) with general boundary operators \(B_j=B_j(x,D)\), \(j=1,\dots,q\), are considered. BVPs are treated in the spaces \(\mathbb{H}^{s,\varphi}(\Omega)\) and \(\mathbb{H}^{s,\varphi}_\Omega(\mathbb{R}^n)\) (the latter is the closure of \(C^\infty(\Omega)\) in \(\mathbb{H}^{s,\varphi}(\mathbb{R}^n)\)). The Fredholm property of the mentioned BVPs with elliptic PDEs are investigated in the spaces \(\mathbb{H}^s(\Omega)\). In Chapter 4, BVPs with non-homogeneous boundary conditions are considered in the scale of Hörmander and Sobolev spaces with positive and negative smoothness parameter \(s\) (twoseded scale of spaces). Generalizations of the Lions-Magenes theorem ([\textit{J. L. Lions} and \textit{E. Magenes}, Non-homogeneous boundary value problems and applications. Vol. I. Springer, Berlin (1972; Zbl 0223.35039)], Part 2, Sect 5.2) on the Fredholm properties of BVPs for elliptic PDEs are proved. In the final Chapter 5, results on Fredholm properties of BVPs for systems of elliptic PDEs are proved.
