The purpose of this paper is to examine the existence of solutions of generalized Korteweg-de Vries equations of the form \[ u_ t+ u^ p u_ x+ u_{xxx} =0 \] with initial condition \(u(x,0)= \psi(x)\). Under some conditions on \(p\), \(k\), and the function \(\psi(x)\in H^ k (\mathbb{R})\), the existence of local and global solutions in Sobolev spaces is proved. Similar results are also obtained in certain weighted Sobolev spaces. Also for some initial data dispersive blowup is proved, i.e. \[ \displaystyle{ \lim _{\substack{ x\to x_ n\\ t\to t_ n}} } | \partial_ x^ k u(x,t)|=\infty, \] for \(n=1,2,\dots\), where \(\{(x_ n,t_ n)\}_{n=1}^ \infty\) is a sequence of points in the upper half plane \(\mathbb{R}\times \mathbb{R}^ += \{(x,t)\): \(x\in\mathbb{R}\), \(t>0\}\) without finite limit points.
