The author gives a new (shortened) proof and at the same time a stronger version of a theorem due to \textit{V. Totik} [Weighted approximation with varying weight (1994; Zbl 0808.41001), Theorem 4.1]. The central result of the present paper can be stated as follows: If a sequence of weighted polynomials \(w^np_n\), where \(w\) is an admissible weight function and \(p_n\in \Pi_n\), converges uniformly on the support of the extremal measure associated with \(w\), then it converges to zero everywhere outside of this support. Furthermore, a characterization of uniform approximation on this support is given.
