A model of hydrogen atom confined by its centre of mass and interacting with the quantized electromagnetic field is studied. An ultraviolet cut-off is imposed and it is assumed that the fine-structure constant is significantly small. Using a renormalization group method, it is proved that the unperturbed eigenvalues turn into resonances when the nucleus and electron are coupled to the radiation field.
