The authors investigate the problem of linear planes over a discrete valuation ring. Let \((R,n)\) be a discrete valuation ring with a uniformizing parameter \(\pi\). Let \(R[X,Y,Z]\) be a polynomial ring in three variables over \(R\). Let \(F = aZ - b \in R[X,Y,Z]\), where \(a,b \in R [X,Y]\) and \(a \notin \pi R[X,Y]\). It is proved that if \(R[X,Y,Z]/(F)\) is a polynomial ring in two variables over \(R\), then there exist \(G,H\) in \(R[X,Y,Z]\) such that \(R[F,G,H] = R[X,Y,Z]\).
