Let \(\mathbf{EDS}\) stand for the pseudovariety of finite semigroups whose idempotent-generated subsemigroups have regular \(\mathcal J\)-classes that are subsemigroups. \textit{A. Escada} [J. Algebra 223, No. 1, 15-36 (2000; Zbl 0951.20044)] characterized \(\mathbf{EDS}\) as the largest pseudovariety that does not contain the five-element non-orthodox 0-simple semigroup \(A_2\). Since \(A_2\) can be generated by two elements, this implies that \(\mathbf{EDS}\) can be defined by pseudoidentities in two variables. The author provides a single pseudoidentity in two variables defining \(\mathbf{EDS}\).
