This extensive survey with a total over 400 references describes the historic development of results on the rearrangement of functions. The author starts more than a hundred years ago and goes through a time-line that is divided by section headings like archaic area, paleozoic area, mesozoic, tertiary or quarternary period. The mesozoicum for instance, i.e. the age of the dinosaurs, contains results of very important contributors in the field such as Polya, Szegő and Talenti. Each section has its own extensive list of references. The author has done a great service to the rearrangement community by providing this exhaustive survey of old and recent results.
