The authors investigate a prototype parallel finite element solver for mesh-connected multicomputers (message-passing, distributed-memory multiprocessors). The algorithms are written in an object-oriented language (ESP \(\text{C}_ ++\)). Experimental data are collected for a sample problem on a Motorola multicomputer, an MCC ES-Kit multicomputer and Sun workstations on an Ethernet. The data bear out the theoretical predictions that the solution is highly scalable on mesh-connected multicomputers and somewhat less scalable on workstations connected to an Ethernet.
