By applying the majorizing measure method [cf. Math. J. Indiana Univ. 20, 565--578 (1970; Zbl 0252.60020); Ann. Probab. 18, 1--49 (1990; Zbl 0703.60033)], a new estimate of the supremum of random trigonometric sums is obtained. It is shown that this estimate is strictly stronger than the well-known Salem-Zygmund estimate [Acta Math., 91, 245--301 (1954; Zbl 0056.29001)], as well as recent general formulations of it obtained by the author [Math. Inequal. Appl. 3, 443--457 (2000; Zbl 0971.60036)] and by \textit{M. Lifshits} and the author [Stud. Math. 182, 41--65 (2007; Zbl 1124.30004)]. This improvement is obtained by considering the case when the characters are indexed on subexponentially growing sequences of integers. Several remarkable examples are studied.
