This book is a graduate level text based upon a lecture course on waves in continuous media with particular emphasis on fluid media. It is aimed at students of applied mathematics, mechanics and geophysics. In chapter 1, basic notions of hyperbolic systems, wave fronts and conservation laws are introduced. Chapter 2 deals with basics in linear and nonlinear waves. The method of stationary phase is used to study dispersion. In chapter 3, surface and internal waves, shallow water waves theory and nonlinear dispersive waves are studied in an incompressible fluid. Waves in a stratified fluid and stability of such waves are also discussed. A number of instructive examples and exercises are given that may be useful for the targeted audience.
