Let \(AP\) be the algebra of almost-periodic functions generated by \(\{e_\lambda:\lambda\in{\mathbb R}\}\), where \(e_{\lambda_j}(x)=e^{i\lambda_j x}\) for \(x\in{\mathbb R}\), and let \(AP_-\) be its subalgebra generated by \(\{e_\lambda:\lambda\leq 0\}\). Let \(W_{\Phi_1}+H_{\Phi_2}\) be a Wiener-Hopf plus Hankel operator acting on \(L^2\). Assume that its symbols \(\Phi_1,\Phi_2\) are invertible \(N\times N\) matrix-valued functions with entries in \(AP\) and that \(\Psi=\left[\begin{matrix}\Phi_1 & \Phi_2 \\ 0 & I\end{matrix}\right]\) admits an \(AP\) asymmetric factorization with respect to \(w=\left[\begin{matrix} 0 & I\\ I & 0\end{matrix}\right]\), that is, it can be written in the form \(\Psi=\Psi_-D\Psi_e\), where \(\Psi_-\) is an invertible \(2N\times 2N\) matrix-valued function with entries in \(AP_-\), \(\Psi_e\) is an invertible \(2N\times 2N\) matrix-valued function with entries in \(L^\infty\) such that \(\Psi_e(x)=w\Psi_e(-x)w\) for \(x\in{\mathbb R}\), and \(D\) is a diagonal matrix-valued function with entries \(e_{\lambda_1},\dots,e_{2N}\) on the main diagonal. The numbers \(\lambda_j\in{\mathbb R}\) are called the partial indices of this factorization. The main result of the paper under review says that (a) if there exist positive and negative partial indices, then \(W_{\Phi_1}+H_{\Phi_2}\) is not semi-Fredholm; (b) if all partial indices are non-positive and at least one is negative, then \(W_{\Phi_1}+H_{\Phi_2}\) is properly \(d\)-normal and right-invertible; (c) if all partial indices are non-negative and at least one is positive, then \(W_{\Phi_1}+H_{\Phi_2}\) is properly \(n\)-normal and left-invertible; (d) if all partial indices are equal to zero, then \(W_{\Phi_1}+H_{\Phi_2}\) is two-sided invertible. A formula for the one-sided (resp. two-sided) inverse is also given. The results are illustrated by an example. | |||
